Apple (Ten Thousand banishments from the garden)

The only way to eat an apple is to hog it down like a pig and taste nothing, that is real… But if I eat an apple, I like to eat it with all my senses awake.  Hogging it down like a pig I call the feeding of corpses.”       “Mystic”,  DH Lawrence

Apple

It is one thing to hog an Apple down like a pig.

And, it is another…

to bathe your Fuji in ice cold water

to place her on the altar of your kitchen island

to transform the singularity of her smooth skin and porous flesh into eight symmetrical sections

placing her body on crystal cut like the waves of the Sahara desert

then taking her into the inner chamber of your home

setting your plate on the wood and marble coffee table with the carved legs

as you turn on your Cash (Johnny and Roseanne) playlist and sink into the embrace of your worn leather divan

hitting on shuffle and then entering She Remembers Everything

breathing in and out like a Better Boat and letting God do her thing

placing section one in your mouth like pistachio toffee

knowing all the while that to know in this way is worth ten thousand banishments from the garden of good and evil

It is one thing to hog down an Apple like a pig.

It is another to relish your nourishment as a sacrament.

It is one thing to eat an Apple like a pig.

It is another to relish your nourishment as a sacrament.
